Two men have pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring and making travel plans to join the ISIS terrorist group.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 26-year-old Ahmed Mahad Mohamed and 25-year-old Abdi Yemeni Hussein pleaded guilty last week to charges of Conspiracy to Provide Material Support and Resources to a Designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.

The FBI arrested the men in July 2019 at a departure gate at Tucson International Airport, where they planned to fly to Cairo and then enter ISIS-controlled territory in the Sinai Peninsula. Agents found $10,000 in their possession that they planned to use to buy firearms.

Prosecutors said the men met online and shared a desire to join ISIS, and began making plans to join the group together for over a year while they were living in Tucson.

If they are convicted, the men face up to 20 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.
