Gun violence intervention project set for Tucson

The Tucson Police Department and the University of Arizona are asking community members to weigh in on gun violence and how to prevent it.

They're co-hosting an event funded by a $2 million grant city officials received from the Department of Justice that focuses on community violence intervention efforts.

TPD says they’ll work with local nonprofits and other governmental agencies to stave off future violence through community outreach and assistance with things like housing, jobs and substance abuse.

The community panel is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Participants can share their experiences and hear about new research to cut down on gun crimes.
