A scale and gavel
A judge in Maricopa County put part of the new state budget on hold today. The judge granted a Temporary Restraining Order to Attorney General Kris Mayes to keep the state from transferring $115 million of opioid settlement money to the Department of Corrections.
Mayes requested the restraining order this morning after the budget was signed earlier this week by Governor Katie Hobbs.
The judge set a hearing on the issue for next week. The preliminary injunction expires on July 5th unless there is another ruling.
Hobbs and the legislature put the financial sweep in the budget to help close a $1.8 billion deficit.
