Pro-Palestinian students at the University of Arizona held an on-campus rally on Thursday, joining a nationwide movement of student demonstrations across the country.
Student demonstrators criticized the government’s role in funding Israel’s military, and called for university leadership to cut its ties with Israel. Previous protests have focused on the university's partnerships with weapons manufacturer Raytheon.
Earlier this week, Congress passed a national security package that included $95 million in additional funding for US allies, including Israel.
“What do we do? We get our allies and partners, Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, the weapons and ammunition to help them defend themselves,” said Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
At least 400 students have been arrested at similar protests on college campuses in California, Texas, and Massachusetts. No one was arrested at the UA protest.
