Codie Norman, an animated figure known to many in the Tucson area for spinning signs on the streets to draw people to local businesses, died on Dec. 28, according to reports.
The family of the 58-year-old said Norman died as a result of an apparent drug overdose, the Arizona Daily Star reported.
Family and friends say Norman, the owner of Cool Kat Street Level Promotions, was known for his friendly, engaging demeanor and positivity, according to the Star's obituary.
Norman was featured in a 2015 Arizona Illustrated video about the culture and practice of sign spinning.
"I put a smile on my face, I forget all of my problems, no matter how insurmountable they are. The moment I step on the corner, I turn on the tunes, and you get the first smile — my frown's gone," Norman told AZPM.
