Arizona historical documents, including census records from 1864-1882, are now available for free on Ancestry.com.
The secretary of state’s office signed a deal with the online research company to allow Arizona residents to access the information for free through a special website.
Officials with the state archives said in recent years they saw more people accessing Arizona’s digital records. That convinced the state to strike the deal with the website.
In addition to territorial census records, Ancestry.com now has early Arizona school, marriage and prison records.
