University of Arizona President Robert Shelton says the university financial picture will depend on whether voters approve a 1 cent sales tax increase on May 18th. Without passage of Proposition 100, the UA is facing more layoffs and cuts, according to Dr. Shelton, who also discusses the fallout from the new immigration law in Arizona.
Dr. Shelton says the semester which is ending this week has produced some bright spots including the UA being ranked number one in funding for the physical sciences, according to a National Science Foundation report. Dr. Shelton also says the transformation plan which began nearly two years ago is preparing the UA for the future.
