AZPM reporter Tony Paniagua brought us a story on the 100th birthday of the iconic ‘A’ on Tucson’s Sentinel Peak on Monday.
Quick recap: A 1914 UA football victory over California’s Pomona College inspired the rock and mortar monument.

Paniagua talked to Terry Ruiz, who was born and raised in Tucson. She visited the monument as a child and now brings her own kids.
Melissa Einfrank can see the A from her yard and walks the hill regularly.
“The 'A' to me means University of Arizona, and I’m an alumni so I’ve been aware of the 'A' since I started school many years ago.”
We wanted to know what memories you had of the landmark, so we asked.
I remember white washing the A with 100s of others, 1991 on Freshman A Day! Is that still a thing? @UAAA @UofA https://t.co/6IO6GSfg2h

Sentinel Peak Brewing Co.’s name was chosen, in part, because of its owner’s close connection to Tucson.
Two of the three founders are native Tucsonans, including Taylor Carter. He remembers his dad recounting the mountain's history to him as a child and its significance when he was a student at the University of Arizona.
“It’s a spot in Tucson where you can overlook everything,” Carter said. “It’s a spot where a lot of history really grew from and it was an absolute perfect fit.”
