Pima Community College Chancellor: "Extremely Disappointed" By Losing State Funds

Budget deal defunds community colleges in Pima, Pinal and Maricopa counties.

Listen:

The chancellor of Pima Community College, Lee Lambert, reacted with extreme disappointment to the news that his institution would lose all funding from the state in the budget deal that lawmakers reached Tuesday.

State funding contributes only a small portion to the school's budget - this year it received $7.9 million in state appropriations - but in a prepared statement Lambert wrote that the loss of that money will have a detrimental effect on the college.

“These proposed cuts to our funding will do irreparable damage to PCC in the near term, especially at a time when operational costs are rising, and the overall impact of such a precipitous reduction is impossible to calculate,” Lambert said.

He said the college is working hard to anticipate and mitigate the damage as the budget process unfolds.
