The City of Tucson is getting funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to expand access to affordable housing.
The $7 million grant, awarded through the HUD’s Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing program, will support efforts to eliminate local barriers, streamline permitting processes and update land use policies.
“A lack of affordable homes on the market is driving up housing costs for too many Tucson families,” Senator Mark Kelly said. “This effort will remove barriers to new construction and preserve the city’s existing housing stock– ensuring Tucsonans have access to safe, affordable places to live.”
“Rising housing costs put hardworking families across Arizona at a risk of homelessness,” said Senator Ruben Gallego. “This $7 million grant will increase the supply of affordable housing in Tucson and help ensure that every family has a safe, stable and affordable place to call home.”
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero also praised the Arizona Senators’ for their support of the city’s HUD application.
